Ordering and your proof

How does ordering work?

Choose a design, the gold, your size and the mark for the face. Add your initials and the year for inside the band, and any words of your own. Then place your order.

Within two business days we send your proof. Once you approve it, your ring is made to order in Australia.

What is in my proof?

A drawing of the face at its true size, with its measurements, and the exact words and numbers for inside the band. For a crest, it shows the design as we have redrawn it for the face.

You approve it with one click, or tell us what to change. Two revisions are included. Every ring has a proof, even with a plain face, because every ring carries its Register number.

Can I cancel?

Yes, any time before you approve your proof, for a full refund. Nothing is cast until you approve it. Once you approve, your ring is made for you alone and is final sale.

How long does it take?

About 2–3 weeks after you approve your proof for a plain face, and about 3–4 weeks with an engraved face. Then delivery: usually 1–5 business days in Australia, longer overseas. We'll give you a date with your proof. We never promise same-day dispatch.

Will I see the ring before it is sent?

Yes. We photograph your finished ring and send you the picture before it is dispatched.

How can I pay?

By card at checkout, in Australian dollars in Australia and in US dollars everywhere else. We don't offer buy-now-pay-later.

Your mark

What can you engrave on the face?

Initials: up to three letters in one of our house letter styles. A monogram: your initials drawn together as a single cipher. A crest or emblem: artwork you upload, which we redraw for the face. The Clover takes initials only.

How is it engraved?

By laser. Laser engraving is precise and sharp, and it suits a ring that is worn every day. It is a shallow cut, so the mark sits crisply on the surface of the gold.

Can I use my ring to seal wax?

Not with a laser-engraved face. It is too shallow to press a clear impression. A wax seal needs the mark cut deep and in reverse. If that is what you want, write to a jeweller before you order.

Can I use my family crest?

A coat of arms belongs to a person, not to a surname. There is no crest that everyone named Smith can use. If arms were granted to you, or have come down to you in your line, you may use them.

In Scotland, arms are regulated by the Court of the Lord Lyon, and arms belong to one person at a time. Other family members matriculate their own. If your arms are Scottish, please make sure they are registered to you.

When you upload a crest, we ask you to confirm you are entitled to use it. We engrave the design you supply. We don't research, grant or verify heraldry, and we don't offer a "find your family crest" service.

What if I don't have a coat of arms?

Choose a monogram, or upload an emblem that is entirely yours: a symbol, a device, a drawing that means something to your family. We will never call an emblem a coat of arms.

Can you engrave a company, club or team logo?

Only with written permission from whoever owns it.

What do I send for a crest?

A PNG, JPG, PDF or SVG of the arms; a photo of an old ring, a bookplate or a wax impression; or a careful sketch. If you don't have it yet, choose "I'll send it later" and we hold your order until it arrives.

What can go inside the band?

The Register line: your ring's number, and your initials and the year if you wish. You can add up to 20 characters of your own, such as a motto or a date, in one of five lettering styles. Inside-band engraving is included.

Gold and platinum

Which gold should I choose?

9ct is the hardest-wearing and the most affordable. 18ct is richer in colour and heavier in the hand. 14ct sits between the two. Each comes in yellow, white or rose.

Where does the gold come from?

Our gold is ethically sourced in Australia, from Mt Rawdon and the Cadia Valley, LBMA-refined and NATA-assayed. Every ring is made to order in Australia.

Can I have platinum?

Ask a jeweller for a price. Platinum is heavier than gold and is priced for each design.

Why can't I order 9ct to the United States?

US guidance says gold below 10 karat shouldn't be sold as "gold". For a US address, please choose 14ct or 18ct.

Size and fit

How do I find my size?

Measure the finger you will wear it on, at the end of the day when your hands are warm. A signet has a heavier head than a band, so it sits best a little snug. If you are between sizes, choose the larger.

Sizes run from US 5 (AU J) to US 16 (AU ~Z+7):

USAU / UKUSAU / UK
5J10.5U½
5.5K11V½
6L11.5W½
6.5M12Y
7N½12.5Z
7.5O13~Z+1
8P13.5~Z+2
8.5Q14~Z+3
9R½14.5~Z+4
9.5S½15~Z+5
10T½15.5 / 16~Z+6 / ~Z+7

Prices are shown for size 10 / T½. Smaller sizes are priced a little lower and larger sizes a little more, shown as you choose.

Which finger, and which hand?

Traditionally the little finger of the hand you don't write with. Many people now wear a signet on the ring finger or the index finger. Any finger is right if it feels right.

Can my ring be resized later?

Please check your size carefully before you order. Every signet is made to your size, and it is final sale once you approve your proof.

The Register

What is the Register?

Our record of every ring we make. Each ring has a number, laser-engraved inside the band, and an entry that records the ring, its gold and its mark. Read the Register terms.

The ring has changed hands. Can you update the entry?

Write to us with the ring's number and a clear photo of the inside of the band, showing the number. Tell us the new owner's initials and the year, and we add them to the entry. The ring is not re-engraved, and it doesn't need to be sent to us.

Can I get a copy of the entry?

Yes. Ask for an extract and we email a one-page copy as a PDF.

Does the Register prove who owns the ring?

No. It records the names people give us. It isn't proof of ownership, a valuation or a heraldic record.

I'd rather not have my initials inside the band.

Then we engrave the number alone. We still record your initials in the Register, and you can ask us to remove your initials from the entry at any time.

Delivery and duties

Where do you deliver?

Australia, New Zealand, the United States and Canada. Delivery is free, tracked and insured, and needs a signature. Shipping and returns.

Will I pay duty or tax?

Australian prices include GST. For US addresses, a 12.5% US import duty is added and shown at checkout, so there is nothing to pay on arrival. For New Zealand and Canada, local taxes or duties may be charged on delivery.

Do you deliver to the United Kingdom or Ireland?

Not yet. Gold sold in the UK must carry a UK hallmark, and we are arranging that before we deliver there.

Returns, faults and care

Can I return my ring?

Every signet is made to order, so we don't offer change-of-mind returns, refunds or exchanges once your proof is approved. That includes choosing a different design, gold or size.

What if something is wrong?

If your ring arrives faulty, damaged or not as described, contact us and we will repair, replace or refund it as the Australian Consumer Law requires. If the engraving doesn't match the proof you approved, we make it again.

Do you polish, repair or re-engrave rings later?

No. We make each ring once, to order, and we don't offer workshop services after delivery. Faults are always covered by our warranty and the Australian Consumer Law. How to care for your signet.
