IThe Register

Every ring
has a number.

Each signet we make is given its own number, laser-engraved inside the band. Its entry in our Register records the ring, the gold and the mark on its face.

IIHow it works

Three things,
kept simply.

  • i.When you order. Your proof shows the ring's number. Once you approve it, we laser-engrave that number inside the band, with your initials and the year if you wish, and open its entry in the Register.
  • ii.If it changes hands. Write to us and we add the new owner's initials and the year to the entry. The ring is not re-engraved, and it doesn't need to be sent to us.
  • iii.Whenever you ask. Anyone named on the entry can ask for an extract: a copy of the ring's entry, sent by email.

The Register is a record. These are its terms, in plain English.

1. What we engrave

When we prepare your proof we give your ring the next number in the Register. We laser-engrave that number inside the band, and, if you wish, your initials and the year. For example: No. 0417 · J.E.H. 2026.

This is the only Register engraving the ring ever receives. You approve the exact wording on your proof before anything is cast. If you prefer, we engrave the number alone and still record your initials in the entry.

2. What the entry records

  • The ring's number
  • The design and the gold it is made in
  • The mark on the face: a short description, and the proof you approved
  • The year it was made
  • The first owner's initials and year
  • The initials and year of each later owner we add on request

The entry does not record prices, addresses or contact details.

3. Adding a new owner

If the ring changes hands, either the new owner or the previous one can write to us with:

  • the ring's number, and
  • a clear photo of the inside of the band, showing the number.

Tell us the new owner's initials and the year, and we add them to the entry. We do not re-engrave the ring, and the ring does not need to be sent to us. We confirm by email once the entry is updated.

4. Extracts

Anyone named on the entry, or anyone who sends us the ring's number with a photo of the inside of the band, can ask for an extract. An extract is a one-page copy of the entry, sent by email as a PDF.

5. Is there a charge?

The Register line is included with every ring. There is no charge for adding a new owner or for an extract.

6. What the Register is not

  • It is not proof of ownership. It records the names people give us. It does not decide who owns the ring.
  • It is not a valuation or an insurance document. An extract can sit alongside your insurer's records, but it does not state a value.
  • It is not a heraldic record. We engrave the mark you supply. We do not research, grant or verify coats of arms.
  • It is not a service plan. Adding a new owner is a change to the record only. It does not include any work on the ring.

7. Your privacy

An extract shows initials and years only. The names and contact details we use to handle a request are kept under our privacy policy and never appear on an extract.

Anyone named on the entry can ask us to remove their own initials. The engraving inside the band stays as it is.

8. If people disagree

We don't take sides in family matters. If we receive conflicting requests about the same ring, we pause changes to that entry until the people involved agree, and we tell each of them we have done so.

9. How long we keep it

We keep the Register for as long as we trade. If the business is ever sold, the Register goes with it. If we ever close, we will first email each owner we can reach a final extract of their ring's entry.

Numbers are never reused. If an order is cancelled before its proof is approved, its number is retired, not reissued.
